Initially the classes were divided according to the length of the boat and the displacement of the engines. In the 30's division was expanded, but always with big groups. Only from 50s onwards categories were further defined and detailed, first according to the weight of the boat and then to displacement with a classification that is used nowadays.

Since 1903, by length and displacement:
  • - up to 8 meters and up to 7 liters
  • - from 8 to 12 meters and up to 15 liters
  • - from 12 to 18 meters and up to 30 liters

In the 30s classes were detailed by weight and displacement:
  • - 12 liters
  • - 6 liters
  • - 3 liters
  • - 1,5 liters
  • - 350-450 KG
  • - 800 KG

From 50s classes were furter detailed. By weight:
