Trofeo Campari

The Campari Trophy, a highly prestigious competition in our inboard racing, has also had a certain appeal among foreign pilots in the past.
Established in 1949, it was initially reserved for the big racers of the KD 800-900 Kg weight classes. During its long history, the trophy has undergone numerous changes both in the participating classes and in the competition formula.
The Trophy is awarded to the pilot who wins it twice, even if not consecutively. Since 1967, it has only been contested by the LV 1300 inboard racing class and since 1970 it has also involved the R4 2500 cc racers.
This trophy, which has always been run on the waters of the Idroscalo in Milan in a single race, between 1970 and 1972 saw its annual run in two separate editions: one reserved for the LV 1300 racers in Milan and one for the R4 2500 cc class in Peschiera del Garda. Again in Peschiera in 1973 the Lancia Flaminia 2500 raced, while in 1974 it was the turn of the R3N 2000 cc racers.
In the 1975 edition the race was held in Peschiera and Milan: this time in each race there were two trials, again for the R3N 2000 cc class.
In 1976 the Campari Trophy, in addition to the R3N racers racing in Peschiera over the distance of three trials, also saw the OB 350 racing outboards competing for success in the two Auronzo races.
In the last editions of 1977-1978 this challenge was reserved for the OB 350 outboard class, again racing in Auronzo over two heats.
